Frequently Asked Questions

For scout leaders using Scout Stop to find overnight lodging.

What is Scout Stop?

Scout Stop is a national directory of scout-friendly overnight lodging. Churches, camps, state parks, retreat centers, and schools list their spaces so troop leaders can find a place to stay for trips, campouts, and travel. We follow a 2-deep verification model: every published venue is reviewed and verified before it goes live, so you can trust the information. Search by state, capacity, and amenities like showers, kitchen, and WiFi.

How do I see a venue's contact information?

Venue contact details (phone, email, website) are shown on the venue page only after you sign in. Access to contact info requires the Scouter role (or Leader, Staff, Admin). Apply for Scouter access from your account page; once approved, you'll see contact info on venue pages to help you reserve or coordinate your stay.

How do I add a venue to the directory?

You need Submitter access. Sign in, go to My Account, and apply for the Submitter role. Once approved, you can submit venues via the Submit a Venue form (in the header when signed in). Our team reviews each submission before it goes live.

What are leader reviews?

Leader reviews are ratings and comments from scout leaders who have stayed at a venue. They help other leaders know what to expect (e.g. cleanliness, hospitality, group size). Only users with the Leader role can submit reviews. Reviews are moderated before they appear. Apply for Leader access from your account page if you want to leave a review.

What does "Verified" or "2-deep" mean?

Venues marked Verified Scout-Friendly have been checked against our verification checklist (overnight policy, capacity, showers, contact info, availability, youth policy). We follow a 2-deep approach: submissions and venue edits are reviewed by a reviewer and verified by staff before publishing. You'll see when a venue was last verified and how (e.g. phone call, website) on the venue page.

What etiquette should I follow?

When contacting a venue, introduce yourself and your troop, state your dates and group size, and ask about their policies (reservations, fees, arrival times). Respect their space and rules. After your stay, consider leaving a review to help other leaders. When submitting a new venue, provide accurate details so our team can verify it.
